Welcome to this week’s edition of Neuro Nuggets.
Nuggets are dense, shiny, interesting and valuable.
I try to deliver this in the form of ideas to fuel your curiosity and creativity.
Enjoy!
Quote of the Day:
Philosopher and writer Friedrich Nietzsche on enjoying the process:
"The end of a melody is not its goal."
Thoughts:
1: Ever occur to you that if you don't post pieces that you think aren't polished enough, you'll never post them.
2: Yes.
…
1: So?
2: Okay, I see your point.
Storytime:
When I write these newsletters, I can’t help but hold in my mind a picture of who I think will be reading them. This picture shifts and changes but always influences how I feel about any given post. Lately, I guess because of the break I’ve taken from posting, the picture in my mind has become more restricting than usual. It makes it harder to post things, as I don’t feel like they meet an unarticulated and probably unrealistic standard.
I love ideas and I love writing about them. I don't want them to be perfect, just thought provoking... but sometimes it feels like that isn’t enough. I’ve had to remind myself more and more that it’s about sharing and creating and that’s it. It’s scary sometimes, but I am going to continue creating and sharing them with you. Perfection was never the goal. Creation is a process and outcome rolled into one and the process is where I find the value.
One question for you:
When does the picture in your head restrict you? The picture of others, of yourself, of how things ‘should be’. What would changing this picture allow?
Find of the week:
https://notes.andymatuschak.org/About_these_notes?stackedNotes=zKKB5ENRahwftH96H7mijiu
The closest format I’ve experienced to an actual second brain. It’s vast and dense and super crazy. It’s basically a publicly shared note taking system. I recommend if you want to get lost in a maze of ideas and connections. Interesting and absorbing way of storing notes for sure.
His explanation:
These notes are mostly written for myself: they’re roughly my thinking environment (Evergreen notes; My morning writing practice). But I’m sharing them publicly as an experiment (Work with the garage door up). If a note seems confusing or under-explained, it’s probably because I didn’t write it for you! Sorry—that’s sort of an essential tension of this experiment (Write notes for yourself by default, disregarding audience).
Gratitude:
I am grateful for Nartjies. My two favorite snacks are citrus fruit and carrot sticks. Not together and not in that order though :) I am grateful for the micro-ritual that peeling and eating a citrus fruit involves. I’d like to write more on the ritual and what it actually does for one but for now let’s focus on the fruit. It’s simple and enjoyable and I am grateful.
Time is precious, attention is time.
Thank-you for spending it on this.
